Claire Diamond
Claire Diamond gained a BA (Hons) in Textiles at Goldsmiths University of London in 2005. Following this she relocated to the West Midlands, having successfully gained a placement on the Crafts Council 2 year residency 'Next Move' at University of Wolverhampton.
Claire creates contemporary wall pieces alluding to landscapes from the textile medium tuft. A rural upbringing on a farm with a view of the Sperrin Mountains in Northern Ireland has had a lasting impact on the visual inspiration for her work. Claire's work is a personal response to terrain, topography, geology and notions of the sublime all explored through the effect of abstract imagery referencing ordnance survey maps, macro/ micro, etc. Her passion for tactile qualities is evident in the careful choice of hand-dyed yarns, which in turn result in an interactive aspect as people are drawn to experience and explore it through touch.
Since moving to Wolverhampton, Claire has exhibited locally and nationally with prizewinning work on tour with the RDS National Arts and Crafts Competition in Ireland. Since 2005 she has received an Arts Council Grant as well as completing commission work for Stella Mc Cartney. Claire also enjoys an active involvement in Art education, teaching both as a visiting lecturer and running various children's workshops.
